Alert officers able to take two armed robbery suspects into custody; search for third suspect ongoing

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A convicted felon was one of two armed robbery suspects picked up by Milwaukee police -- and police say they're searching for a third person.

Police were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of E. Capitol Drive on Wednesday, September 24th -- just before 11:00 a.m.

There, an employee told police a suspect tried to hide window tint inside his pants -- and when the employee approached the suspect and two other men who were with him, all three displayed handguns.

Police say the suspects left the store and fled the scene in a vehicle -- with the stolen window tint.

Around 12:45 p.m., officers on patrol noticed a vehicle with two occupants matching the description of the vehicle used in the earlier crime.

The driver, a 21-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken into custody in the 1900 block of W. Brown Street. The other occupant, a 27-year-old Milwaukee man, had exited the vehicle earlier, but he was located and taken into custody in the 1900 block of N. 19th Street.

Police say they recovered a gun from one of the suspects.

Police continue to search for the third suspect.

Police say the 21-year-old suspect taken into custody has a criminal record dating back to 2011. He currently has an open court case out of Milwaukee County for retail theft.

Police say the 27-year-old suspect has a criminal record dating back to 2006, including a felony armed robbery conviction.

The Milwaukee Police Department will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
