Search on for man who attempted to abduct 11-year-old girl

PEWAUKEE (WITI) -- Pewaukee police are searching for a man who they say attempted to abduct an 11-year-old girl.

Officials say the girl was walking along the Pewaukee lakefront around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19th when a dark red four-door sedan with tinted windows pulled to the side of the roadway. The white male driver asked the girl for help looking for his child. There was an additional white male and a white female passenger in the vehicle. When the girl began to walk away from the vehicle, the driver exited the car and attempted to pull her back. The girl ran away and the police department was alerted.

The driver was described as approximately 5’8” to 6’1”, in his late 30s, with facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and black pants.

"It's good that she knew well enough to run, and it seems like there would be enough places to run here. My kids are little -- six, four and three. It's scary to hear about that. They're close to me all the time, but I...you know, if they were a little bit older and wandering away, that would really make me nervous," Susan Goggins said.

"It's very scary. I have an eight-year-old and a five-year-old right now. I think (kids) need to know not everyone's friendly, so be safe," Janet Merkel said.

The Pewaukee Police Department requests anyone with information regarding this incident contact the department at 262-691-5678, or the Waukesha County Crime Stoppers at 888-441-5505, or Text “Waukesha” and your message to 274637.
