KENOSHA (WITI) — Kenosha police say a man accidentally fired his gun inside his apartment on Wednesday afternoon, October 1st.

It happened at the Wood Creek Apartments on 15th Street in Kenosha.

Police were notified of the incident shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Police say a neighbor told police she heard a loud noise while she was in her bedroom. She later discovered a hole in her wall, and a hole in the hallway — and she realized a gun had been fired. That prompted her to call police.

Police responded to the apartment, and found visible bullet fragments.

Police spoke with the woman’s neighbor, and that man admitted to firing the gun. The man told police he was checking out the sights on his gun, and believed it wasn’t loaded. He was apparently aiming the gun at a light socket when he squeezed the trigger, causing the gun to go off.

The bullet passed through the hallway and a nearby apartment wall.

No one was injured.

Police say the man who fired the gun is 54 years old — and while he was not taken into custody, they are referring a charge of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon to the District Attorney’s Office.
