World's largest guitar takes center stage

NEW JERSEY (WITI) -- The world's largest playable guitar is taking center stage in New Jersey this weekend.

The Gibson Flying V is a whopping 43 feet long, 16 feet wide, and weighs over 2,000 pounds.

It was actually built several years ago, as a way to teach construction engineering and physics to students.

The "Axe" is now on display at a science museum.

"It's not just a sign, it's not a picture, it can actually be strummed. It doesn't sound necessarily the sweetest of all guitars but it can be played," said Harvey Newquist, National Guitar Museum Executive Director.

The exhibit's director actually strummed some tunes on the "Rock Ock," which is the only playable 8-neck stringed guitar in the world.

The exhibit will be on display through January of next year.
