WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) — Investigators are looking into why a medical helicopter crashed a few blocks from a North Texas hospital where it was headed.

A patient being transported from Oklahoma was killed in the early Saturday, October 4th crash in downtown Wichita Falls and three crew members aboard the aircraft are being treated for serious injuries.

The helicopter was headed from Waurika, Oklahoma, about 35 miles away. Authorities believe the patient who died had been shot late Friday night at an apartment in the Oklahoma town.

The chopper was operated by the O’Fallon, Missouri-based Air Evac Lifeteam, a major air ambulance service that operates in 15 states.
