Domestic dispute: Shots fired at El Rey grocery store on busy Sunday afternoon

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two people are in custody in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred at the El Rey grocery store near 13th and W. Burnham on Sunday afternoon, October 5th.

It happened shortly before noon.

"Just seen a bunch of cop cars rushing over here. It was pretty busy because the parking lot was pretty full at the time," Julio Crespo said.

"All the parking spots were filled so a lot of people probably saw," Vidal Lomeoi said.

At the time, workers inside the Chavas Tacos truck were starting to feel the lunch-time rush.

"We were just cooking, doing our regular job and we just heard 'bam,' like two shots," Lomeoi said.

Police say a 22-year-old woman came to the store to confront a 31-year-old man who was working as a security guard at the store.

Police say the woman had a weapon, and the security guard fired shots at the woman.

The woman didn't fire her weapon.

Police say both the man and the woman were taken into custody, and they are being questioned by detectives.

"We came outside and we could see all the cops swarming in and all the people, and then the ambulance and the firefighters came," Lomeoi said.

FOX6 News was able to view surveillance video of the incident -- which showed a woman in a white car acting erratically in the El Rey parking lot -- even hitting a customer with her vehicle.

El Rey staff members say she was waving a weapon above her head.
