We Energies: It's expected it will cost less to heat your home this winter

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Fall brings winter, and the good news is it's expected it will cost less to heat your home than what we saw last year.

Bills are expected to be around 25% smaller than they were last year. That's based on normal winter weather and the current price of natural gas.

According to a We Energies spokeswoman, heating costs should be down around $200 from where they were last year. The average customer is expected to pay about $583 for their winter heating.

A normal winter is based on actual data from the last 20 years.

That $583 is less than the average consumer has paid in eight of the last 10 winters -- and it's certainly less than what most paid last winter!

"Last winter I think we all agree was quite the anomaly. It was the coldest winter in the history of our natural gas system. We saw our customers use record amounts of natural gas and their heating bills reflected that increased usage," We Energies spokeswoman Cathy Schulze said.

Schulze says it's a good idea to start winterizing your home now.
