Man accused of driving drunk and wrong way down highway in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- A 58-year-old man from Mount Pleasant was arrested for allegedly driving drunk on Monday, October 6th.

Officials say they were dispatched to a report of a car striking a light pole near Washington Ave. and Green Bay Rd. just before 3 p.m. on Monday. The first officer located a witness and the downed pole. But the vehicle that struck the pole had taken off.

The witness told officers the driver that struck the pole headed northbound in the southbound lanes on Green Bay Rd. -- and turned on to Newman Rd. near Kohl's Department Store. A short time later, an officer located the suspect vehicle driving on a flat tire that was nearly off the rim. The suspect vehicle stopped. Nobody was hurt.

Officials say the driver of the car was arrested for operating while intoxicated (2nd offense). He was also issued a municipal citation for operating the wrong way on a divided highway, unsafe lane deviation and hit-and-run property.

This case has been referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office.
