"Parents love that the kids are getting out:" Students take part in International Walk to School Day

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Thousands of kids in Milwaukee took part in an international event on Wednesday, October 8th: International Walk to School Day!

Students from Fernwood Montessori School, and other schools across the Milwaukee area took part in the event.

The day is all about making sure kids are active.

Organizers say events like this help kids when classes start.

"Parents love that the kids are getting out and doing something in the morning and the teachers love that it gets some of those 'willys' out before they get into the classroom and those lasting effects of the concentration and the blood flow into their mind for the rest of the day," Jake Newborn with the Wisconsin Bike Federation said.

Students could walk or ride their bike to school to take part in the event.
