MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Six people are in custody -- accused in the fatal beating of a Milwaukee man. The case is in the hands of the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for charges, but the investigation is far from over.

At 33rd and Lapham, candles mark the spot where neighbors say a 40-year-old Milwaukee man was murdered.

"It is very, very sad because things like that don't happen -- at least on this block," a neighbor said.

Police say the man was beaten to death by a group of people around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1st.

"They said he was running up toward his door to try to get safety and try to get help and they kept pulling him back," a neighbor said.

Leslie Fontanez says a family member witnessed the end of the attack.

Police have taken six people into custody -- three men and three women between the ages of 24 and 34. They were taken into custody after police pulled over a vehicle that matched a witness description.

A family member says Alfonso Estrada-Cortes may have been coming home from an area bar when he was attacked.

"He just got married about a month ago. Two kids," Efren Estrada said.

On Sunday, Efren Estrada came to the scene looking for answers. He wants to know exactly what happened to his uncle, and why.

Estrada-Cortes' family says he came to Milwaukee 30 years ago, looking for a better life.

"Pretty much raised me.  He was like my second father," Efren Estrada said.

"It's sad. It's sad and it's scary," a neighbor said.

Milwaukee police say this is an investigation with a lot of moving parts. They were still talking with neighbors late Saturday.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact police.

Saying he hit their vehicle and drove off. Not good. But still, NOT a reason to beat someone to death!! Call the police and report license plate. Idiots.

These guys just made plea deals NOT GUILTY….there really is no justice in this city. This guy didn’t deserve to be beat to death for supposedly side swipping the others’ vehicle.
