Quaker Steak & Lube presents check to Fisher House Wisconsin

NEW BERLIN (WITI) — On Veterans Day Tuesday, November 11th Quaker Steak & Lube presented a $4,500 check to Fisher House Wisconsin.

Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher started the Fisher House Foundation in 1990 after learning of the need for temporary lodging facilities for families at major military medical centers.

There are currently 64 Fisher Houses located throughout the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom.  The Fisher House Foundation has served more than 220,000 families, provided 5.2 million days of lodging, and saved families more than $200 million in lodging and transportation costs over the past 23 years.

The Milwaukee VA’s Fisher House will be located just northwest of Lake Wheeler and be within walking distance of the medical center. The 13,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in the summer of 2015 and will offer 16 suites, all professionally furnished and decorated.

Quaker Steak & Lube and Hal’s Harley-Davidson teamed up this summer to raise funds for Fisher House Wisconsin by selling raffle tickets during Quaker Steak & Lube’s Wednesday night Bike Nite events and giving away a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The $4,500 check was presented to Fisher House Wisconsin on Veterans Day.
