Milwaukee Panthers Clobber Minnesota-Crookston for 1st win 75-54

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Steve McWhorter nearly tripled his season-opening output, scoring 17 points to lead Milwaukee past Division II Minnesota-Crookston 75-54 on Monday night.

McWhorter finished with 6-for-10 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers in four attempts and added seven rebounds. He had made only two field goals to score six points in a season-opening loss at Auburn on Friday.

Milwaukee (1-1) trailed the feisty Golden Eagles four times in the first half before Cody Wichmann drained a 3-pointer on an assist from McWhorter to break a 15-15 tie. The Panthers out-scored Minnesota-Crookston 20-10 in the last 7:55 to halftime, putting the game out of reach.

Eleven players scored for Minnesota-Crookston, but Tyler West Jr. led with nine points.

Milwaukee out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 43-31 — McWhorter, Matt Tiby and Justin Jordan each grabbing seven. The Panthers also drained 12 of 28 3-point attempts with Wichmann hitting two.
