"It's very scary:" Shots fired during armed robbery at Jose's Blue Sombrero

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police are looking for a pair of suspects who robbed Jose's Blue Sombrero restaurant late on Saturday, November 22nd -- opening fire inside.

The restaurant is popular, and it's usually packed on weekends especially, so to hear it was robbed at gunpoint is putting many on edge.

"It's very sad. For me, growing up in this area I`ve seen the changes and it's not for the good. And it's very scary," Jody Wagner of Racine said.

Police were dispatched to the restaurant just before midnight -- for a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they learned a robbery was committed by two suspects.

Police say after the suspects entered the restaurant, they displayed a gun while demanding an employee open the safe. Two shots were then fired. The suspects fled north through the parking lot of the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of cash.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

"I'm just sad because this town was a great town growing up. I have a lot of memories. If my grandparents were alive today..." Wagner said.

As a father of two teenagers, Dave McCarthy says news of what happened at the restaurant hits too close to home for him. He says he's eaten at Jose's Blue Sombrero several times before and says it's always busy, often with families.

"I just hope it's not really a reflection on the community as a whole. This is a pretty good place to live, but there are more and more things like this happening all the time so you just have to be aware," McCarthy said.

Lately, that seems to be more true than ever in the area.

"Home invasions, there's been horrible deaths in the area recently, murders, robberies. My husband and I are planning to move. We want out of here. It's too much. We just don't feel safe," Wagner said.

Both suspects in the robbery of Jose's Blue Sombrero were described as males, approximately 5’7”, dressed in dark clothes and wearing white masks over their faces.

The restaurant is closed on Sundays -- and FOX6 News wasn't able to reach any restaurant officials for comment on what happened.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact Mount Pleasant police.
