"We want to win Black Friday!" Walmart gearing up for biggest shopping day of the year!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Love it or hate it, Black Friday has become an American tradition. It is considered the Super Bowl of shopping -- and one of the nation's largest retailers, Walmart, is ready for the big day!

Employees at the Walmart store on Layton in Greenfield are making final preparations before another Black Friday.

"Getting the back room ready, getting the sales floor ready. We've been working on it for quite some time to make sure everything goes off without a hitch on Thursday," Walmart spokesperson Erica Jones said.

While some try to avoid the inevitable crowds, others say they can't escape the seduction of the sale.

"The shopping events are turning into family tradition. They have their meal. They get their ads. They plan their attack for lack of a better term and then they all come out as a family and they start their holiday shopping together!" Jones said.

"You have people running, stomping, shouting, yelling. I want this. I want that," Miss Nita said.

Nita has worked every Black Friday for the past 14 years. She says when it comes down to it, safety is priority number one.

"Out of everything -- safety, and that we try very hard to make sure everybody is in safe hands!" Nita said.

In the realm of retail, it doesn't get more exciting than this!

"You know, I can't talk about sales figures but what I can say is, we want to win the holiday season! We want to win Black Friday!" Jones said.

Depending on who you ask, success can be measured in different ways. On Black Friday, a win might be going home with the trendiest toy -- or maybe, never leaving home at all!

Like most retailers, Walmart has beefed up staffing for the holiday season. Nationally, Walmart hired more than 60,000 seasonal employees to work the holidays.

Walmart opens at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving -- Thursday, November 27th.
