Busy lines at big box stores, Best Buy is no exception

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Some of the longest lines for Black Friday shopping are at Best Buy. Last year, Best Buy opened at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. This year, it opened another hour earlier, at 5 p.m.

Like the pep talk before a big game, the manager of Best Buy in Fox Point motivates his staff for the retail version of the Super Bowl.

Outside, dozens of Thanksgiving shoppers wait in 20 degree weather.

"It's nice but it's real chilly right now, the feets a little cold," said Tyree Cobb, shopper.

"I am wishing I wore a few more layers but it's okay, it's all good," said shopper, Katie O'Reagan.

The line may not be as long as Black Friday's past, but some came dressed like they were headed to Lambeau.

"A few sweaters, a jacket, I had two pairs of gloves, but I took one off," said shopper, Frankie Cortez.

When the doors finally open, shoppers grab their carts and move through the store -- like routes on a field. A well-stocked pile of discounted TV's is quickly tackled.

For Liz Allen's family, holiday shopping is a team sport that lasts all night long.

"We decide as a family where we want to go and then we put in order what's more important, Best Buy and then Kohl's and then Walmart and then Micheals," said Liz.

After the items are checked out, some head home for rest -- while others plan to go all night, or wake up early to do it all again.

Best Buy will stay open until 1 a.m. It reopens Friday morning at 8 a.m. and some staff members say that's when they expect the largest crowds to come through the doors.
