In moving obituary he penned himself, man reveals his "true identity," important instructions for his son

MINNEAPOLIS (WITI) -- A Minnesota man, dying of brain cancer, penned his own moving obituary with the help of his wife. The obituary was published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune this past Sunday, November 30th.

35-year-old Aaron Purmort died two days before Thanksgiving, on November 25th, following a years long battle with cancer.

Purmort's wife, Nora posted the obituary on her personal blog entitled "My Husband's Tumor."

"We had time to sit down and write his obituary. I've never laughed and cried more in one sitting, but I'm so glad we got to do this. I love this man so damn much," Nora Purmort writes in the blog post.

In his very creative, and at times even funny obituary, Aaron Purmort, a comic book aficionado, describes himself as Spiderman, and the cancer that would take his life as a result of "a radioactive spider bite." He even calls upon his young son Ralphie to avenge his "untimely death."

The first paragraph of Aaron Purmort's obituary reads:

"Purmort, Aaron Joseph, age 35, died peacefully at home on November 25th after complications from a radioactive spider bite that led to years of crime-fighting and a years long battle with a nefarious criminal named Cancer, who has plagued our society for far too long. Civilians will recognize him best as Spiderman, and thank him for his many years of service protecting our city."

Aaron and Nora Purmort's story will be told as part of an A&E documentary.

"This isn't a cancer story. It's a love story. All of it. The whole thing. Even the part where cancer appears like an unexpected plot twist or a diabolical villain. All those cliches people say about life are true -- and become even truer when something like this happens," Nora Purmort says in the documentary's trailer.

Funeral services for Aaron Purmort are planned for Wednesday, December 3rd.

A crowdfunding page has been established to help cover medical and funeral expenses. So far, more than $100,000 has been raised.
