Racine woman accused of using app to electronically cash checks, then cash them again at bank branches

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 25-year-old Racine woman has been charged -- accused of using an app to electronically cash checks after she had taken in paper checks to the bank for cashing.

Celeste Robinson of Racine faces one felony count of fraud against a financial institution.

A criminal complaint filed against Robinson says between the dates of April 19th, 2013 and July 26th, 2013, Robinson defrauded Wells Fargo Bank by presenting Piggly Wiggly payroll checks issued in her name for deposit/cashing through a mobile app, when she had already physically cashed the same checks at other locations -- specifically Tri City bank branches.

Wells Fargo reported to police it has lost $843 as a result of these fraudulent deposits.

The complaint says Tri City Bank also reported financial loss as a result of Robinson's alleged actions.

Robinson has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 17th.
