"Booze and Belts:" Brown Deer PD, other agencies will be out in force December 12th - 20th

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- The Brown Deer Police Department will be out in force along with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Wisconsin for the “Booze and Belts” mobilization from Friday, December 12th, 2014 to Saturday, December 20th, 2014.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be out in force to prevent needless deaths and injuries by looking for unbuckled and impaired motorists along with other unsafe driving behavior.  High-visibility law enforcement mobilizations like “Booze and Belts,” are helping to save lives and reduce injuries.

In the past 10 years, fatalities from alcohol-related crashes in Wisconsin dropped from 348 to 2003 to 185 in 2013, which is a 47 percent reduction.  Injuries from alcohol-related crashes dropped from 6,445 in 2003 to 2,660 in 2013, which is a 59 percent reduction.  In addition, seat belt use in Wisconsin is at an all-time high with nearly 85 percent of drivers and passengers buckling up, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The hope of the Brown Deer Police Department and other law enforcement agencies is that motorists will voluntarily decide to buckle up and drive sober.  The goal is to save lives and prevent injuries, not to write more safety belt tickets or make more drunk driving arrests.
