Milwaukee children surprised with early Christmas gifts, "there is a need"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's not jolly old Saint Nick, but ladies dressed in blue spreading Christmas cheer.

"It's like Christmas has come early for everyone," said COA Youth and Family Centers Development and Public Relations Director Christine Sweeney.

They're part of U.S. Cellular's "30 Days of Good."

This effort involves giving away $100,000 worth of gifts to nonprofits in four cities including Milwaukee.

"Going out into the community and surprising and celebrating the people who do good every single day of the year. The people who don't ask to be celebrated. The people who are there just doing it because it's the right thing to do," said U.S. Cellular Field Marketing Manager Tamara Tomczyk.

They made a special stop at COA Youth and Family Centers to provide new toys to the children in the early education program.

"We're always in need of puzzles, art supplies, things that are used in the classroom but are not reusable over time," said Sweeney.

"It's a great community and we just want to be able to support it. We know there is a need here," said Tomczyk.

U.S. Cellular will be surprising four Milwaukee organizations with gifts and helping several others along the way.

"Maybe we'll stop by and just buy you coffee for the day at a local coffee shop or see a waitress that is hard on his or her luck and be able to give back to them," said Tomczyk.

Making a difference in the community.

"I get choked up quite a bit as I am a little bit right now just to see how good people are," said Tomczyk.

While brightening the holidays for these little ones.

This is U.S. Cellular's first year of "30 Days of Good."
