"It's just a bad situation:" Woman found dead in car on Milwaukee's northwest side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A woman is found dead in a car on Milwaukee's far northwest side and police need the public's help.

FOX6 News has been told by a Milwaukee police lieutenant they are investigating a homicide -- the body of a female was discovered inside a car parked behind an apartment complex near 95th and Silver Spring Drive.

When a community doesn't know exactly what's going on, they come out to see. By late afternoon, the entire neighborhood had a bad feeling.

Neighbors say they first noticed Milwaukee police around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon closing off the alley behind the Dak property apartments.

Walter Davis lives about 100 feet away. By dusk, that's as close as he could get -- and now he wants to leave, altogether.

"It definitely makes me want to get out of the neighborhood because I have a 3-year-old son and I definitely don't want to raise him in a neighborhood like this," said Davis.

Investigators were processing the scene, taking pictures and talking with neighbors. Police say they were called by a resident directing them to a vehicle parked in the back.

"There was a woman discovered this afternoon who died of an apparent gunshot wound. Possibly 24-years of age. We have not positively identified her at this time," said Lieutenant Lucretia Thomas.

Police say they have leads into the victim's identity but are asking the public for its help.

"If they have any information as to what might have happened over in this area between yesterday and today, if they could give us a call," said Thomas.

Phoebe Lawson lives just up the street from the apartments and fears the worst.

"It's just a bad situation and I feel for the family. It's sad," said Lawson.

The police cleared the scene around 8 p.m. Sunday night. The green car, where the body was found was towed away.

The police are urging you if you have any information to come forward and contact 414-935-7302.
