Were they a target? Homes shot up on Milwaukee's northwest side has victims fearful

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Innocent families are targeting on Milwaukee's northwest side. Within the past few days a couple of homes have been shot up, and the victims are speaking out hoping to find safety for themselves and others.

Right now, the victims are feeling terrorized in their own community.

As she counts the bullets, Denise Jackson counts her blessings.

"There are over 10 bullet holes that hit my house, 10 bullets. I'm thankful for my life and my children's life because last night we all could have gotten shot," said Jackson.

Rounds flew past Jackson's young son who was sitting in the living room at their home on 24th Place.

"Around 10 p.m. gunshots came through my house and at that moment, I grabbed all the children and put them on the floor," said Jackson.

Jackson frantically called for help.

"When I called 911, they said my house was targeted. Why? It's only me and my 4 children in my house. Not knowing is the scary part about everything -- I don't know who, I don't know why," Jackson said.

Although confused and on edge, Jackson is sure about one thing.

"To protect me and my children I have to get out of here as soon as possible," Jackson said.

Jackson isn't the only resident feeling this way. Another home just a few blocks away on 22nd Street is riddled with holes. Now the owner is filled with fear -- so much so, she didn't want to show her face.

"I can't live there no more the house is totally gone, for nothing. I'm just so sad because I lost everything. I can't understand why anyone would want to do it to an old lady," said the 22nd Street homeowner.

The 75-year-old woman's home is boarded up after suspects targeted her multiple times. The first shooting was on Thanksgiving, then this past Sunday, December 14th.

"Gun shots went out like it was a war zone," said the homeowner.

The woman left her home unnerved. Then Wednesday, December 17th, someone torched it and the victim was left with few belongings.

This victim, along with Jackson, make a plea for help.

"Need more police patrol around here, it's very bad down here," said Jackson.

"There needs to be a way they can be stopped," said the 22nd Street homeowner.

These are just two of several cases of homes being shot up in the area that FOX6 News has been told about recently.

Police did say they are investigating but didn't go into further detail.
