Kenosha police officer attacked by 28-year-old man inside police department

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha police say an officer was attacked by a 28-year-old man inside the Kenosha Police Department on Tuesday, December 23rd.

It happened shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Police say the 28-year-old man walked into the police department with cuts to his hands and arms. Those cuts were wrapped in blood-soaked cloths.

Police observed the man to be acting abnormally, and when asked if he needed help, police say the 28-year-old man punched an officer in the face. A struggle ensued -- before the 28-year-old man was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital for treatment before he was taken to jail.

The man was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battery to a police officer.

We're told the man is from Illinois but has family members that live in Kenosha.

The officer who was attacked suffered small cuts to his nose and hands. He also has a swollen eye, and he was exposed to blood.

The officer is a 14-year law enforcement veteran.
