Hamilton family teaming up with Jesse Jackson to spread their message

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Hamilton family is taking their cause to Chicago and teaming up with Jesse Jackson.

Jesse Jackson reached out to the Hamilton family earlier this week. Now they're teaming up to get the message out to a much broader audience.

For months one family has marched, rallied and demonstrated. The crowds have grown and the voices have become louder.

"I think we're going to continue to pick up momentum," said Nate Hamilton, Dontre Hamilton's brother.

Now, the family of Dontre Hamilton is taking the ideas and the people beyond the city limits.

"Going to a new venue, trying to spread our message to see what's actually happening in Milwaukee," said Nate Hamilton.

Hamilton was shot and killed by a Milwaukee police officer in April. The officer was fired for his actions leading up to the shooting. But he was never charged with any crime.

The story has caught the attention of national civil rights activists.

Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow PUSH Coalition will hold a news conference and rally on Saturday.

"It's some people here who really want change, so I'm hoping that Jesse Jackson can help relay that to the nation," said Nate Hamilton.

The Hamiltons are hoping to spread a message and expand the spotlight even more.

"Create new legislation, challenge the procedures and policies of the police department and have them implement new training. My main focus is uniting the people. Getting the people out to love one another, respect one another," said Nate Hamilton.

The group will meet early Saturday at All Peoples Church and car pool to the event.

The news conference and rally will start at 10 a.m. in Chicago.
