Two women seriously hurt after head-on collision in Mequon

MEQUON (WITI) -- Mequon police are investigating a collision between a car and SUV that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, December 30th. The wreck happened in front of the MATC North Campus just before 1 p.m. Officials say one of the vehicles crossed the center line and slammed into the other.

The speed limit in the area is 40 m.p.h., but Mequon police could not say yet how fast the two vehicles were traveling at the time of the collision.

The two drivers were taken for treatment by separate Flight for Life helicopters to a Milwaukee hospital.  Both drivers received serious injuries to their legs. Those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officials say one of the drivers is a 64-year-old woman from Grafton -- the other is a 25-year-old woman from West Bend. Both were wearing safety belts.
