Bitter cold can be dangerous, but some had to be out in it on Monday!

MEQUON (WITI) -- Our remarkably mild December is quickly becoming a distant memory! The new year has so far been a cold one! We saw bitterly cold temperatures on Monday, January 5th, and the arctic air is expected to stick around through the week.

The cold weather had Genevieve Antunes a little hot under the collar on Monday, as she experienced frustrating car troubles.

"It took us like, two hours to get a tow truck out here. It's gonna take a little while because everyone else is pretty much like, in Firestone because their cars won't start. It's pretty cold. I kinda wish I was wrapped up in like, a warm blanket," Antunes said.

Stephan Malone was working in the cold Monday -- clearing snow along Oakland Avenue. Malone says the colder it gets, the more he expects his Milwaukee Public Works crew will have to address issues such as leaking laterals.

"We had to dig it up and put insulation on it so it doesn`t freeze once we back fill it -- so these people continue to have water. Otherwise, it may freeze and we`re back out here trying to thaw it out," Malone said.

Uli Alarcon was out Monday trying to capture the cold with his camera.

"Cold weather shots-- getting all the ice and everything and the sun hitting the rocks," Alarcon said.
