Former Green Giant facility in Beaver Dam damaged following fire

BEAVER DAM (WITI) -- The Beaver Dam Fire Department was notified of smoke coming from the building at 1322 N. Spring Street in the City of Beaver Dam Sunday, January 4th.  This building is the former Green Giant facility and is now used for storage.

According to the Beaver Dam police, the owner of the building reported there were several boats, RVs, cars, and trailers stored inside.  Police and fire units from Beaver Dam responded and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the northwest corner of the building.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department began a defensive fire attack and called for mutual aid. Units from Burnett, Fox Lake, Horicon, Hustisford, Juneau, Lowell, Randolph, Reeseville, Watertown, Waupun,  Dodge County Emergency Management, DECERT,  and the Beaver Dam Police Department assisted with the operation and helped answer other calls during the operation.

Two firefighters were transported to Beaver Dam Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Most mutual aid units were released at about 11:45 p.m.

Fire suppression efforts were hampered by the cold temperatures, high winds, and a frozen sprinkler system in the building that rendered it inoperable.

A routine cause and origin investigation will be conducted as condition allows.
