World War II veterans treated to special screening of "Unbroken"

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- More than a dozen World War II veterans were treated to a special movie screening on Monday night, January 5th.

The Stars & Stripes Honor Flight and Marcus Theaters teamed up for a benefit event showing of "Unbroken."

The film is the true story of Louie Zamperini -- taken prisoner by the Japanese after spending 47 days drifting in the Pacific Ocean.

World War II Nazi prisoner of war Joe Demler, made famous as Life Magazine's "Human Skeleton" greeted guests before watching the film.

"There are so many amazing stories when you talk to veterans. Everyone has their own but it's so exciting and heartwarming too," Demler said.

All the money raised at the screening will be used to fund the Honor Flight program.
