(CNN) — Bill Cosby’s TV wife is standing firmly in his corner.

Showbiz 411 reported that Phylicia Rashad, who played Clair Huxtable on NBC’s “The Cosby Show,” told the outlet that she never saw any indication of the behavior that many women have attributed to the legendary actor.

He has been accused of harassing, drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women. No charges have ever been filed against Cosby.

“Forget these women,” Rashad said. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

More than 20 women have come forward with claims, and a defamation lawsuit has been filed against Cosby. The long-admired actor and comedian has seen his reputation suffer in the wake of the allegations, including the cancellation of a planned television show and the suspension of the Cosby Chair for the Humanities at Spelman College in Atlanta, where he and his wife, Camille, have been longtime benefactors.

Rashad, who also starred as the actor’s wife on the CBS show “Cosby,” said she sees the controversy as part of a larger plot.

“Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV,” she said. “And it’s worked. All his contracts have been canceled.”

The actress said she loves Cosby and defended his wife, saying there was no way Camille Cosby would stand for such behavior from her husband of 50 years.

“This is a tough woman, a smart woman,” Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman writes that Rashad told him. “She’s no pushover.”

She also spoke on the legacy of the beloved show that cemented her and Cosby as one of TV’s favorite couples.

“This show represented America to the outside world,” she said. “This was the American family. And now you’re seeing it being destroyed. Why?”

Asked why she believed Cosby hasn’t spoken up to defend himself other than to say that the black media should cover the story with a “neutral mind,” Rashad said she believes he has too much pride to do it.

“If he spoke now, what do you think the media would do with it?” she said.

Phylicia Rashad claims Cosby won’t speak up to defend himself against these accusations because he has too much pride. Is she an idiot ? Of course she is. Cosby won’t defend himself, because obviously the accusations have merit. Sad, the accusers didn’t come forward to the authorities when it happened, but they were most likely intimidated by Cosby.

Apparently cosby was banging rashad too and she enjoyed it. No real story here folks, go on about your business…

I believe there is merit to these charges but I believe (most) of them are band wagon liars. As for the show being the American family is not true. The American family is the blue collar worker the small business worker and going to church. Not a Doctor and lawyer as parents. It was a very good fictional family program.

As with any situation the media runs wild with it. I will wait for a trial and evidence put in front of us to make a decision.

I love the Cosby show. I love and respect Bill Cosby. If someone raped me, I would not wait decades to speak up. Think people.

Cosby is innocent… These broads wait 20 years and then come out? Once again a black conservative is being attacked, what about Jesse Jackson’s love issues? TMZ broke the story so it must be true…

My thoughts are; When people accuse people of doing bad things it is hard not to opinionize the crime because the media needs exciting stories ( not saying they did ) I believe they sometime run the paper without all that facts it leads to more opinions / scandals unless the act was caught on tape or witnessed by others, plus was said to of happend 20 years ago I think we should give Cosby the benefit of the doubt he could be a victim out of these reports and others trying to ruin his repetition out of jealousy, if there’s a trail and it comes out in court that he’s guilty from ALL the facts, then I will believe it. What happened to (innocent until proven guilty).

sorry Kathy, your guilty until you prove yourself innocent in this country.. unless your caught red handed, then our judicial system comes up with every excuse to let you off with a slap on the hand.
