Racine community comes together to help save hospitality center

RACINE (WITI) -- Good news for a Racine hospitality center that was set to close. The center is connected to Saint Luke's Episcopal Church.

After airing a story on FOX6 News, the community came in to help save the center from closing.

Organizers say they will keep the shelter open throughout the entire winter season -- 7 days a week.

For people that don't have somewhere to stay in this bitter cold, they say it is quite literally a life-saver.

"If it wasn't for this place, I'd be really scared. There was thought that this place was gonna close down a few days ago, and I was scared. For right now,  you know, this is home," said Robert Rhodes, staying at the shelter.

The Racine shelter provides food and a warm place to stay overnight.

They say their biggest need right now is pillows and toiletries.

In order to stay open the shelter needs help. Donations of blankets, clothes, money and volunteers are needed. If you can help out, you’re urged to call Rev. Stewart at 414-405-5619 or email him at clerickevin@me.com.
