Flight headed to Phoenix from Milwaukee had to return to Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A plane that took off from General Mitchell International Airport Tuesday, January 13th for Phoenix had to return to the airport after taking flight. This, according to a Southwest Airlines spokesperson.

We're told the tail of the plane scraped the runway as the plane was taking off for its initial flight to Phoenix. After the crew noticed what had happened, they turned the plane around.

Southwest flight #404 made a safe, routine landing at Mitchell without incident, and was able to return to the gate -- where a maintenance team inspected the aircraft and found no damage. No mechanical work had to be performed on the plane.

The aircraft was cleared to return to service and the flight arrived in Phoenix about four hours late.

We're told there were six crew members and 155 passengers on the flight.

No one was injured.

According to FlightAware.com, the flight was initially scheduled to land in Phoenix around 11:14 a.m. MT.
