Foamation's "cheesehead" synonymous with the Packers; but do you know how they came to be?

ST. FRANCIS (WITI) -- It's a product that's synonymous with the Green Bay Packers. The infamous "cheesehead" was born when Ralph Bruno found a whole new purpose for the foam in his mother's couch!

"I was actually re-upholstering her couch at the time and cut it into a triangle and then burned holes in it and added a color to it so it kind of looked like all cheese," Bruno said.

After noticing his instant popularity when wearing his cheesehead in public, Bruno realized he could turn his Packers pride into a business.

"It was just the reaction that it had gotten at the time that said 'maybe there's something here that we could do more with,'" Bruno said.

"Foamation" -- the Original Cheesehead Factory opened in 1987.

Over the years, Foamation has continued to re-invent the cheesehead.

"There are lots of cowboy hats going out, and sombreros, and crowns and tiaras have been pretty popular as well," Foamation Production Manager Mario Busalacchi said.

Die-hard Packers fans have helped Foamation thrive as they've shipped cheeseheads to every state in the U.S. along with 27 countries!

The Packers success doesn't hurt either!

"The ball keeps rolling as long as they're winning," Busalacchi said.

Bruno's latest idea is the Green Bay G goatee, or "go-g." He says he has faith he'll see cheeseheads and maybe even "go-g's" in the stands come Super Bowl Sunday!

The Foamation factory in St. Francis has a retail store where you can buy your favorite cheesehead.
