Brewers Hank takes home top honors at World Dog Awards -- winning "Dog of the Year!"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers’ lovable dog, “Hank, the Ballpark Pup,” has been named “Dog of the Year” at the CW Network’s World Dog Awards. Hosted by George Lopez, the event aired on the CW Network tonight.

The awards show put the spotlight on man’s best friend and highlighted special achievements by Hank and other canines alike.

The “Golden Hydrant” was presented to Hank by Paris Hilton on stage at the Barker Hanger, the site of the event in Los Angeles.

Hank traveled to Los Angeles via Southwest Airlines with a Brewers contingent to accept the award “in person.” Prior to the event, Hank walked the green carpet where he was greeted by members of the Hollywood and national media.

The “Dog of the Year” award was presented to the canine who made the biggest impact on pop culture in 2014. Hank was one of five finalists and was elected via a vote on the CW Network website.

Hank first appeared as a stray at Brewers Spring Training on February 17th, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers. He became a fixture at camp and immediately captured the hearts of everyone at Maryvale Baseball Park, as well as pet lovers across the world. Stories on Hank appeared everywhere from the London Daily Mail to PEOPLE Magazine, and nearly every major national news and talk show across the United States.

Hank has teamed up with the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) to initiate fundraisers benefiting the efforts to feed, care for and shelter homeless animals. In addition, 20 percent of Hank merchandise sales, such as his book and other Hank collectibles, are also donated to the WHS. To date, the Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation have raised more than $150,000 through this program.

Hank’s rise to the pop culture limelight since first walking on the field in February has been nothing short of tremendous. He has warmed the hearts of thousands of Brewers fans and dog lovers alike and continues to make a positive impact on the Milwaukee community.
