Defeating hunger in Wisconsin: After the holidays is a crucial time to donate food

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- One organization is tackling the issue of hunger in Wisconsin head on.

It's Feeding America's third annual Defeat Hunger Bowl headed up by Packers tight end Andrew Quarless.

Organizers say right now is a crucial time for food pantries as donations significantly decline after the holidays.

The Defeat Hunger Bowl collected 71,000 pounds of food last year. This year's goal is 100,000 pounds.

"There are nearly 600,000 people across the state of Wisconsin that are relying on food from Feeding America food banks and we need to make sure that we have the supplies that we need to fill the shelves of the pantries in the area that are feeding families and children," said Gina Styer, Feeding America Communications Manager.

You can help defeat hunger by donating food at any Wisconsin Walmart.
