Firefighter rescues dog floating down Los Angeles River

LOS ANGELES (WITI) -- A firefighter was lowered from a helicopter to rescue a dog that was spotted in the Los Angeles River during a sudden afternoon rain storm on Friday.

A woman spotted what she thought was a piece of wood floating in the water, and then realizing it was a small brown dog -- she called 911.

According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Fire Department rescued the dog from a hovering helicopter.

Although the older pooch needed plenty of warmth to recover from the cold, he is expected to be okay.

The woman who spotted him in the river hopes to adopt the dog if he is not claimed by an owner.
