Firefight at home in West Allis made more difficult by falling snow

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- A house fire in West Allis was made more difficult for firefighters because of the snow that fell throughout the day and into the night Sunday, February 1st.

It happened at a home on Hale Court -- and a fire engine actually got stuck in the snow.

Luckily, crews were able to maneuver it out pretty quickly.

We're told the fire started in the attic.

Firefighters were able to knock it down before it spread, but a battalion chief says the snow made it difficult to see.

"It's bad enough having the cold, but then you have to deal with seven or eight inches of snow and hydrants sometimes get buried. We can't stress enough having people dig out their hydrants in the morning if they can," West Allis Fire Department Battalion Chief Dan Ledvorowski said.

Fire crews say they'll have to finish investigating the cause of the fire on Monday.

The family who lived in the home is staying with neighbors.
