As snow falls again, DPW has 90 salt trucks out on the roads Tuesday evening

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Snow is falling again on this Tuesday, February 3rd after we saw a winter storm that brought a foot of snow measured at General Mitchell International Airport this past weekend. The snow, which began shortly before the evening rush hour Tuesday has DPW crews mobilizing plowing crews again.

Just before 5:00 p.m., DPW officials said there were 90 salt trucks out on the roads. Those trucks were focusing first on main streets.

97 drivers were expected to be out as of 8:00 p.m.

The FOX6 Weather Experts say the snow is expected to last through late evening Tuesday. One to three inches of total accumulation has been forecast. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of southeastern Wisconsin until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.

As more snow is falling, and winter continues, it may be a good idea to get yourself signed up for text alerts from the DPW. You'll receive a text message when a snow emergency has been declared in the city of Milwaukee, or when the "Four-inch Rule" goes into effect.

Note:  If you have changed your cell phone service provider (even if you kept your same cell phone number), you must update your SNOW MOBILE account to reflect that change.

NEW FOR WINTER 2014-2015:  Residents in the 5-Day Exception Parking Area can sign up for an alert message for when DPW calls for an overnight snow operation.

DPW officials say garbage and recycling collection will resume Wednesday, February 4th and DPW crews will work 10-hour days through Saturday, February 7th to catch up on collections.

REMINDER: The City of Milwaukee has a year-round set-out policy for garbage carts. Residents who have curb pick-up must take their carts to the curb. For alley pick-up, residents must shovel out their carts so DPW crews can access them for uninterrupted service.
