Milwaukee Admirals fall to Monsters in shoot-out

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Lake Erie Monsters' Joey Hishon scored the game winning goal in the final round of the shootout getting a deflection off the glove of Magnus Hellberg to beat the Admirals 3-2 Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

There were no goals scored in the first period, but there were some great saves made by both Hellberg for the Admirals and Calvin Pickard for the Monsters. Shots at the end of the first favored the Admirals 13-9.

The Admirals put the first goal on the board with 4:06 remaining in the second period as Pontus Aberg got the puck to Taylor Aronson in the right circle and he skated around the Lake Erie net, before pivoting and firing a shot on goal that was stopped by Pickard. However, the rebound came right out in front to Triston Grant who quickly put the puck in the net before Pickard could recover.

With just 40.9 seconds left in the second period the Admirals added another to take a 2-0 when Colton Sissons collected a loose puck on the left dot and fired a wrister past Pickard for his 15th goal of the year.

Just 3:55 into the third period Lake Erie cut the Admirals lead in half on a Ben Street shorthanded goal.

Lake Erie tied the game at two with 5:47 left in the third period courtesy of a Paul Carey power-play tally.

After a scoreless, but eventful, overtime the two teams went to a shoot-out where the first five shooters all missed before Hishon managed to get just enough mustard on this attempt that it snuck by Hellberg and gave Lake Erie the victory.

The Admirals will look to get back to their winning ways as they take on the division leading Rockford IceHogs at the BMO Harris Bradley Center this Friday night February 6th at 7pm.
