New report suggests Charles Manson's fiancee wanted to marry him...for his dead body

CALIFORNIA (WITI) -- She only wanted him...for his dead body?! A new report out from The New York Post claims 27-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, or "Star" allegedly devised a plan to get Charles Manson to marry her so she could gain control of his remains once he died.

Journalist Daniel Simone told The New York Post that the marriage was all part of Burton's plan to gain possession of Manson's corpse. She intended to lay out his body in a glass crypt, and Burton apparently thought it would make lots of money, according to the report.

Simone claims Burton and a friend asked Charles Manson to sign a document awhile back that would let them have ownership over his body when he died, but Manson never signed it. That's when Burton and her friend began devising a plan that involved Burton marrying Manson, which would grant her ownership of his remains under California law, the report says.

The couple's 90-day marriage license expired last week without a marriage ceremony taking place. Simone says Charles Manson has no interest in renewing that license.

"He's finally realized that he's been played for a fool. He feels he will never die. Therefore, he feels it's a stupid idea to begin with," Simone told The New York Post.

A statement on MansonDirect.com -- a site Burton reportedly maintains says Burton and Manson "plan on renewing the license, and things will move forward in the coming months." The site says the wedding was postponed "due to an unexpected interruption in logistics," according to The New York Post. The Post says Manson entered a medical facility for treatment of an infection and cannot receive visitors.

Simone believes Manson never intended to marry Burton.

“Manson never consented to the wedding in the first place and never will,” Simone told The Post.

The New York Post was unable to reach Burton and her friend for comment.
