Village of Sussex home damaged following early morning fire; cause unknown

SUSSEX (WITI) -- Fire crews responded to the scene of a house fire in Sussex early Monday morning, February 9th.

It happened near Salem and Linda Drive.

According to officials, around 4:49 a.m. a Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Village of Sussex was patrolling a subdivision and observed a house on Linda Drive was on fire. All five occupants of the home had just evacuated.

The Sussex Fire Department responded along with additional Sheriff’s Department squads.  Fire Departments from Lisbon, Merton, Richfield, Hartland, Pewaukee and Brookfield also responded to assist.

The initial deputy on scene reported observing flames inside the attached garage.  The fire then quickly moved to the main house.  The two adjacent homes were evacuated as a precaution. One of those homes did receive some damage to the siding.

After the fire was extinguished, Fire Department command did request fire investigators from the Sheriff’s Department.  The initial cause of the fire is unknown at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.

A fundraising page has been established at GoFundMe.com to assist the family affected by this fire.
