New allegations: Marshfield woman says Tomah VA Medical Center didn't do enough to save her father

TOMAH(AP) — A Marshfield woman says the Tomah VA Medical Center didn't do enough to save her father.

Candace Baer Delis says 74-year-old Thomas Patrick Baer died January 14th after suffering two strokes at the hospital. She says her father had one stroke during two hours in the waiting room, and another in a triage room after what she said was negligent care.

Baer was taken by ambulance to a La Crosse hospital where doctors removed a blood clot, but he died two days later.

In a statement Thursday, February 12th, Tomah VA spokeswoman Laura Bishop said the hospital takes the allegation seriously. She says staff members plan to look into what happened in Baer's case.

The VA is investigating allegations of overprescribing opiates in Tomah after a Marine's death in August.
