UW-Whitewater graduates give back, hang scarves & hats at Red Arrow Park

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A group of graduates from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater understand how cold it's going to be this weekend -- and wanted to do something about it.

That group visited Milwaukee's Red Arrow Park and hung scarves and hats from the trees and bushes in the park. Monica McClendon, one of those in the group, say something similar has been done in New York and Massachusetts as a way to help the homeless endure the bitter cold of winter. McClendon says she and her friends wanted to do this as a way of giving back to the community.

Along with the hats and scarves, the group planted pieces of paper that read simply, "I am not lost. If you are stuck out in the cold, please take this scarf (hat) to keep warm. You are LOVED!"
