Short handed Marquette falls at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Will Artino scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds as Creighton held off Marquette in the final minutes for a 77-70 victory on Saturday.

Devin Brooks made a layup and Creighton led 69-59 with 4:18 to play. Juan Anderson made two at the line, and Duane Wilson made a layup and a pair of free throws to bring the Golden Eagles within five points with 1:06 remaining. Wilson missed his next two shots, however, and despite scoring five points in the final 15 seconds, Marquette (11-14, 3-10 Big East) couldn't close the margin.

Creighton (12-14, 3-10) shot 8 of 10 at the line to close out the game. Rick Kreklow scored 19 points, Brooks added 13 and Geoffrey Groselle chipped in 12 for the Bluejays.

Wilson made all nine of Marquette's final points and finished with 26.
