"The state intends to charge:" Former Indian Trail math teacher, coach in jail on child enticement charges

KENOSHA COUNTY (WITI) -- A former Indian Trail High School girls basketball coach accused of sending sexually explicit messages to two members of his team appeared before a judge on Monday, February 16th.

25-year-old Jeff Spencer was in a Kenosha County courtroom Monday for a bond hearing.

"We believe high cash bond is appropriate in this case. The state intends to charge. We do not have a criminal complaint done today, but we intend to charge eight counts of child enticement," Kenosha County prosecutor Tracey Braun said.

Spencer is a former Indian Trail High School math teacher and girls basketball coach. He's accused of sending inappropriate texts to two members of his team, and he's accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of them.

"We are not charging any actual sexual assaults," Braun said.

What is being charged allegedly began over the past two months with text messages and discussions with a 15-year-old girl.

"These incidents began in January of 2015 until the first week of February 2015, and resulted in this defendant kissing this girl on two separate occasions. That, actually, was physical contact that happened between the two of them at, we believe, Indian Trail," Braun said.

Specifically, in Spencer's office.

At the beginning of February, Spencer is accused of sending late night text messages to another girl -- this one 16 years old.

"This defendant indicated to this girl that he really liked her and wanted to kiss her, and that he wanted her to come over and cuddle and kiss her," Braun said.

Spencer reportedly told the school prinicpal that he had feelings for one of the girls, and admitted he knew it was wrong to have engaged with a student in this manner.

"I would note that this came to light based on this girl telling friends, who told their parents, who then reported it to Indian Trail Academy," Braun said.

The judge set a $20,000 temporary bond, explaining that the amount can be argued again when the complaint is filed.
