Milwaukee Co. Medical Examiner identifies woman found near 35th & Clarke

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has identified a woman who was found near 35th and Clarke in Milwaukee on Wednesday, February 18th. She is 40-year-old Janet Johnson.

The medical examiner's report says police were initially called to the neighborhood where Johnson was found for a report of gunshots fired. When officers arrived in the neighborhood, they found Johnson laying face down in the middle of the street. The report says a crack pipe was found near her.

The responding officer noted Johnson was "extremely cold to the touch and was 'mumbling.'" When the officer asked Johnson if she was shot, "she could not respond."

Emergency crews attempted for approximately 90 minutes to resuscitate Johnson -- but were not successful. The medical examiner's report says her core body temperature was just 80 degrees.

The report indicates Johnson had spent the past two months in jail. She was released from jail on Tuesday -- and found by officers on the Wednesday.
