RESOLVED: Agreement reached in busing dispute between Renaissance Schools, Racine Unified

MOUNT PLEASANT/KENOSHA (WITI) -- A busing dispute between a Mount Pleasant "Choice" school and the Racine Unified School District has been resolved.

The Racine Unified School District says it will continue to bus 44 Renaissance Schools students for the remainder of the school year.

Fourth-graders and fifth-graders start their day at Renaissance Schools campus on Taylor Avenue in Mount Pleasant before they're bused to the campus on 72nd Avenue in Kenosha.

Last week, the district said it would stop service next month because the students were being dropped off by the district at Renaissance Schools Mount Pleasant campus, but they were then being bused to Renaissance Schools Kenosha campus -- which was not part of any agreement.

Renaissance Schools' founder says the reason the 44 students, fourth-graders and fifth-graders are being bused to the Kenosha campus is because of capacity concerns at the Mount Pleasant campus.

Racine Unified School District officials now say they'll continue to provide transportation for the remainder of the school year -- dropping kids off at Renaissance Schools Taylor Avenue location before they're bused down to Kenosha.
