MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- While Wisconsin's Right-to-Work bill works its way through the capitol, one group says it's not stopping them from unionizing. Home healthcare workers rallied in Milwaukee tonight.

At All People's Church in Milwaukee, a crowd gathered Thursday night, February 26th.

Joining the congregation is Roxann Trigg.

While there is some prayer, this is not a religious gathering.

"It's a struggle. I do have to depend on government food stamps so, I'm just barely making it," said Trigg.

Trigg is a home healthcare worker. She, like others at the church, make less than $10 an hour.

"I'm not asking to be rich. Just want to live a little better than where I am," said Trigg.

This is a rally for better wages.

Healthcare workers have joined a national movement to move the minimum wage to $15 an hour. More money is not the only thing these workers want.

"I still want to be in a union. I feel like the union will help us a lot," Trigg said.

Republican lawmakers in Madison have fast-tracked a Right-to-Work bill. The law is described as a union buster by some, since workers would no longer be required to join and pay dues.

"I think it's clear this group and Milwaukee believes in unions. And I think there is people all over the state that believe in unions, I just don't think Madison is listening," said State Representative, David Bowen.

Bowen joined Thursday's rally. He'll soon have a vote on the law.

Outnumbered by republicans, Right-to-Work appears unstoppable.

"When you look at the research, wages go down. Families don't have enough money to spend in our economy," said Bowen.

Right-to-Work supports say the law gives workers flexibility. Giving workers the ability to say 'yes, I see values I want to support them financially' -- or 'no I don't.'

It will take time to understand how the new law affects Wisconsin workers. Right now, some workers say the bill is not destroying faith to reach their goals.

You may remember these same demands from fast food workers in recent past.

Health care workers have joined the same team -- they plan to hold future rally's.

this law is giving people the choice to join the union or not..a choice..I would personal choose not to join a union…but others might want to all this does is give people the choice..that is what freedom is all about

“I still want to be in a union. I feel like the union will help us a lot,” Trigg said.
This illustrates the power and control these union leaders have over the average worker. Filling her head full of promises of higher wages which will not happen and then just taking her union dues each month to line their own pockets. I feel sorry for people like her who are taken advantage of by these union leaders who really aren’t interested in helping her at all. Their only interest is collecting her union dues.

The sad part Mr. Bob is that it goes beyond the union leaders – it’s the democratic party. Their policies have failed the African American community and yet, they continue to vote them in. Why?? Becuase, just like who she ‘feels’ about the union, is they offer ‘HOPE’ !! The problem is they don’t offer solutions for people to get out of poverty, just enough hope to keep the enslaved in voting democratic thinking they will maybe get something more too-all while continuing to live in poverty.

“I only make $10/hour, I’m living on food stamps, it’s so hard!! But please let me keep paying union dues! Don’t let me keep that extra $50 to use to buy groceries!” Sickening, delusional, ignorant, and near criminal is what this is.

I wish I had the opportunity of choice. I worked for a company for 33 yrs. Union dues continued to rise, union support for hard workers was non-existent. If a person should of been fired due to poor work ethic, theft, drugs, etc, Union was all over it to save their job. I was a hard worker, lived by the rules yet when I needed representation, no Union rep seemed interested enough to represent my needs. Let it be a choice. What I resented most was my dues being used to support a political group. Dues were supposed to be used to support the workers, not a political party.

    • Mr. Bob

You had a choice all along BRISLS you just didn’t realize it. If you had simply closed your eyes, clicked your heels together and wished 3 times that you were back in Kansas you would have been whisked away along with your dog Toto and Auntie Emm.

    • Mr. Bob

Seriously BRISLS you could have quit at any time and found a job elsewhere. Nobody holding a gun to your head to stay when you have to put up with those miserable union losers…

OBVIOUSLY THOSE FOR IT HAVE THEIR REASONS. CALLING EM NAMES AND MAKING JUDGEMENT ON THEIR CHARACTER WHEN NONE OF YOU ACTUALLY KNOW ANY OF THOSE PEOPLE. YOU HAVE YOUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO VOICE YOUR “OPINION” BUT THAT OPINION DOESNT MAKE YOU “BETTER” THAN THEM…. YOU SPEAKING ILL OF PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW, PUTS YOU IN THE SAME CLASSIFICATION THAT YOU PUT THOSE PEOPLE IN….. YOU WANA “DEBATE” WITH EACH OTHER? HAVE AT IT. BUT THE IGNORANT NAME CALLING YOU DO MAKES YOU ALL NO BETTER THAN THE SO CALLED “POLITICAL LEADERS” DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY

Right to work is just another lie from greedy Politicians ! Everyone has the right to work . Politicians say this prevents you from having to join a union if you do not want to . While that is how this bill is being marketed , that is not what this bill is about .
This bill is about breaking unions ! Here is the proof .. they are saying you do not have to join the union if you do not want to , but the union has to represent you just like a union member ! If you could get cable tv and not have to pay anything for the same programming WOULD YOU ? With these same restrictions , how long do you think your cable tv provider would be in business ?
Yes this is definitely about breaking up unions , not about the right to work ! Just another lie by politicians to accomplish a self serving agenda !!
