There's an app for that: Report pothole problems in Milwaukee from your smartphone

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There's a new way for drivers in the City of Milwaukee to report potholes. As the saying goes, "there's an app for that."

Traveling to and from this time of year can be fraught with unseen potholes just waiting to damage your car. They can give even the most experience driver a shock.

"Now, I think to be of service to people I should call the city and let them know so that they fix it," said Joel Blaeser.

City crews spend their days doing just that. They're constantly responding to calls for potholes and other service requests.

"We get thousands of phone calls a week," said Nancy Olson, City of Milwaukee Chief Information Officer.

But officials say they cannot fix what they don't know about. This winter, it's easier than ever to report potholes and other problems. It's called Milwaukee Mobile. It's free to download -- and it's meant to make it easy and convenient for residents to report a variety of problems including potholes.

"You don't have to wait until you're in front of a computer or remember where you were. You can also submit photographs and pictures," said Olson.

The request will then be sent to the proper city department to be added to its "to do" list.

The mobile app has been downloaded about 3,000 times since its launch in September 2014. But city officials hope it will catch on as more people learn about it.

MKE Mobile can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Playstore:
