Now a homicide investigation: Police seek clues in death of 42-year-old woman on Erie St. in Racine

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police now say an investigation into the death of a 42-year-old woman discovered Sunday, March 8th is a homicide investigation. The victim has been identified as Melissa Hansen.

Police were called out to the area of 3 Mile Road and Erie Street Sunday evening, March 8th -- shortly before 7:00 p.m.

They said Sunday and Monday they were "exploring several options" to determine how the woman died.

Racine Police Investigators are actively searching for additional information that anyone may have about this incident. Any citizen with information about this incident is urged to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756.

This case is the second homicide investigation to take place in the area of 3 Mile Road and Erie Street in about a week. Last Monday morning, March 2nd, police were called out to a home in the area where they found 27-year-old Andrew Jones dead as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Jones' roommate, 27-year-old Jacob Rogers has been criminally charged in that case.
