Truck comes off flatbed trailer, causes a mess on I-43 SB near Port Washington Road

OZAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- An accident on I-43 caused a big mess and backups on Wednesday afternoon and evening, March 18th.

It happened on I-43 southbound near Port Washington Road.

Ozaukee County Sheriff's officials tell FOX6 News just after 3:00 p.m., a military vehicle convoy was traveling southbound on I-43 in the city of Mequon. One of the military vehicles was a flatbed semi transporting a box truck.

As the semi traveled under the Port Washington Road overpass, the top of the box truck struck the overpass, causing the load to dislodge from the flatbed.

No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

A DOT inspector was called out to the scene, and that inspector determined the bridge suffered only minor damage. The bridge was deemed safe.

Sheriff's officials say as they were investigating this incident, a secondary accident occurred on I-43 northbound at Port Washington Road. Two vehicles were involved. One person suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Mequon police are handling the investigation into the second crash.
