"All three of us are playing at the same time:" Basketball family faces game schedule dilemma

GERMANTOWN (WITI) -- If you're a hoops fan, the next few days should feel a bit like heaven. With March Madness kicking off and the WIAA state basketball tournament wrapping up, you'll have no shortage of games to watch. But for one family, all the action means a big dilemma.

If you had to choose one word to describe boys basketball at Germantown High School,"dynastic" would definitely fit.

"For us to be able to do this again and be able to go to state again is pretty rewarding for me as a coach and just for all the boys that have worked so hard in this gym through all the years," said Germantown Boys Basketball Head Coach, Steve Showalter.

Coach Showalter and his team are hoping to capture a fourth straight state title this weekend in Madison.

"We have a tough game Friday night and that's what I'm looking forward to and that's what we're preparing for," said Coach Showalter.

Which Coach Showalter is fully focused on Friday's 8:15 tip off -- it puts him in a bit of a tough spot. His son Zak plays for the Badgers and his other son Jake is on North Dakota's State's squad. Both teams made the NCAA Tournament. And that's not all.

"All three of us are playing at the same time!" said Coach Showalter.

Coach Showalter says he hopes to record his sons' games to watch after his own.

"We're going to touch base after the games are over and hopefully we'll all have a good night," said Showalter.

Mostly, he's hoping his sons' teams will advance so he can catch them both later.

"It was frustrating because I would have liked to watch all three, but I knew this weekend was going to be busy if we won and it's hard for me to focus on anything else while we're still playing, so we'll figure it out because hopefully they'll still be playing next weekend," said Showalter.

If all three Showalters' teams advance, they shouldn't have another three game scheduling conflict. The Germantown boys would play Saturday night, while the Badgers and Bison wouldn't play again until the 22nd.
